The Wellsboro Golf team captured their second consecutive team victory to start the 2018 season with a win at Shepard Hills on Tuesday, August 21.

Wellsboro edged out defending league champion Northern Tioga 333-339 despite Northern Tioga's Tanner Adriance (76) and Austin Outman (79) taking the top two individual finishes. The Hornets, however, won by stringing together four rounds of 85 or below to bring home their first league victory of 2018.

"To win the first match of the year is a great start," said head coach Steve Macensky. "I'm proud of all the kids playing so well in tough conditions. Having our top four scores at or under 85 shows how deep our team is."

Senior Ben Barnett finished 3rd overall with a round of 81 to lead the Hornets. Junior Joseph Propheta shot 83 to finish 4th, senior Brandyn Tuttle was 5th with 84, and junior Ty Morral was sixth with an 85. Sophomore Brock Hamblin (92) and junior Daniel Mitchell (107) rounded out the Hornets' scores on the day.

Athens (391) was 3rd, Sayre (398) finished 4th, North Penn-Mansfield (404) was 5th, and Towanda (418) rounded out the field.

The Hornets start the year out at 5-0 (5-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Thursday, August 30 at Towanda Country Club.
